When I purchase a subscription ot a streaming service, newpaper or magazine I am purchasing a service that provides information on an consistence reoccuring basis. Smile gets focus and money that it can use to build its TextExpander business, Nitro fills out its platform offerings in the enterprise space, and PDFpen users get continued support and development. In the end, it sounds as though the acquisition is a win-win situation for everyone. By selling PDFpen to Nitro, Smile is essentially letting PDFpen grow in ways it would have had trouble doing on its own. In contrast, PDFpen was limited to Apple operating systems, and the prospect of attempting to take it cross-platform was daunting for a company of Smile’s size, from both technical and marketing standpoints. TextExpander now works on the Mac, iPhone, and iPad, plus Windows-based PCs and devices running Google Chrome. The recurring revenue generated by the subscriptions will help pay for developing the integrations with other systems-document signing, analytics, SDKs, and so on-that large organizations find compelling.įrom Smile’s perspective, the PDFpen acquisition allows the company to focus on its TextExpander business, which has been growing in terms of employees and platforms. So an enterprise version of PDFpen will likely take on the Nitro Pro name and will rely on a subscription model, like most other apps in the enterprise space. Nitro doesn’t currently have a solution for Apple users in the enterprise, and PDFpen isn’t a big player there now. Where things will change is in the enterprise world. Along those lines, PDFpen will remain in the Setapp subscription service, and Thorpe noted that PDFpen revenue from that source was growing at a double-digit rate. What may change eventually is the licensing model, with subscriptions being offered after a few more major releases. The name will also remain the same, though likely with some Nitro cobranding. Sam Thorpe noted that Nitro was extremely interested in the team’s roadmap for PDFpen and appreciation of the nuances of developing for Apple-focused customers, so it seems safe to say that we shouldn’t expect to see significant technical or interface changes. Nitro will pay $6 million in cash for PDFpen, and the entire PDFpen team will be joining Nitro. PDFpen was an obvious choice, and both Philip Goward and Sam Thorpe emphasized how the deal was aided by the fact that Smile and Nitro have very similar corporate cultures. Its research shows that only 30% of workers have the tools they need to manipulate PDFs, largely due to the cost of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC.Īs Macs, iPhones, and iPads have become more prevalent in the enterprise, largely as a result of employee-choice and “bring your own device” programs (see “ JNUC 2017: A Glimpse into the World of Apple Enterprise,” 3 November 2017), the need for Nitro to expand into the Apple world became apparent. Nitro’s focus has always been on PDF tools in the Windows world, specifically in the enterprise, where 75% of the documents moving through the organization are PDFs. Nitro was founded in Australia in 2005 but is now a publicly traded company headquartered in San Francisco with over 200 employees around the globe. After calls with Smile co-founder Philip Goward and Nitro’s chief product officer, Sam Thorpe, I have a better understanding of the situation. Mergers and acquisitions aren’t common in the indie developer universe around Apple, so I was intrigued when I heard that long-time TidBITS sponsor Smile was selling PDFpen to Nitro Software, a company specializing in PDF tools in the Windows world. #1656: Passcode thieves lock iCloud accounts, the apps Adam uses, iPhoto and Aperture library conversion in Ventura.

6/25/2023 0 Comments Vaccine infographic“As advocates for our clients, we wanted to make sure that the foreign-born population have equal access to the health information that was shared with the public. “When the COVID-19 pandemic started, the number of cases among marginalized and minority groups, which include the refugee population, were high, and there were a lot of speculations about the vaccine among many people in the refugee and immigrant communities,” she says. This made providing accessible vaccine material vitally important. May Shogan, the International Institute’s Director of International Exchanges and Education Department, says that many refugees and immigrants face language and cultural barriers when trying to access the heath system. “Reaching community members who speak languages other than English with clear, understandable and reliable information will be enormously valuable in addressing vaccine hesitancy.” “An important underlying reason for COVID vaccine hesitancy is lack of access to reliable information about the vaccines,” Murphy explains. Murphy, MD, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Director of the UB Community Health Equity Research Institute, is to ensure that clear, accurate vaccine information is available to all members of the community. Translation by the International Institute has resulted in infographic availability in 15 languages. In an effort to help explain how the COVID-19 vaccines were developed and how a vaccine works, the University at Buffalo Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the International Institute of Buffalo, and the Erie County Department of Health collaborated on the creation of a downloadable infographic. 6/25/2023 0 Comments Cracked screen prankHe apologizes, and Barbara tells him that her mother was the only local killed in the accident, and that William was kind to her at the funeral, inspiring her to become a police officer.īarbara investigates the accident while Peter tries and fails to burn his newspaper clipping of the accident. Peter also discovers that she was the daughter of Erica. She tells him that he will likely face no charges, as it was an accident that happened when he was a teenager, and the statute of limitations has expired. There, he meets Barbara, a constable, and confesses the incident to her. The next morning, Barry drives to the train tracks, and Peter goes to the police station. He is then terrorized by the ghosts of Evie, Felix, and Elizabeth. Peter saw several of the victims, all of whom would be his deceased future clients. However, neither got there in time, and the train was violently derailed, killing 47 of the passengers on board. Peter panics when he hears a train whistle, and he raced to move their bikes in the process, he saw what he thought was Barry, running ahead of him. The two left their bikes at the side of the train tracks and went to go spy on a couple in a car. When the two were teenagers, Barry led Peter to a secret location that his brother mentioned, where couples would apparently have sex in their cars. Barry alludes to a horrifying event that happened in their youth that they promised to keep a secret, and tells Peter to leave him out of any confession. Going to the bar, Peter meets with a childhood friend, Barry, and tells him that there is a weight on his conscience that he wants lifted. He travels there alone and meets with his father, William, a retired cop. Now fully disturbed, Peter uses a map to discover that all the deceased patients lived along a train line leading to his hometown, False Creek. He then notices that Duncan doesn't appear in a mirror, and he, too, is a ghost. Perplexed, he calls Duncan and asks to speak with him later, and then has a vision of his deceased patients on the train outside of his window.ĭuncan comes over, and Peter worries about his sanity and questions how Duncan could have referred the patients when all of them have been deceased for decades. The numbers that Elizabeth wrote on his notepad was a date: July 12, 1987. Doing research, Peter discovers that Elizabeth died in 1987, along with all the other clients who have been seeing him. Later, Peter hallucinates Elizabeth saying that "we have her" before turning into Evie and then vanishing, and later, he has a nightmare about Erica, who says she wasn't able to commit suicide because she's already dead. He plays the recording to Duncan, who claims he hears nothing and believes that Peter is hallucinating Elizabeth out of guilt from failing to prevent his daughter's death, pointing out that her initials sound like Evie's name. Peter records her, but she disappears before he can speak to her further. Again, she is disturbed by the sound of it and begins to choke she hits the window, leaving a handprint. One client, Felix, apparently suffers from anterograde amnesia, believing that it is still the 80s another, Erica, talks of her suicidal thoughts, but finds herself unable to commit suicide and another, Elizabeth Valentine, is a girl who is apparently mute and who reacts with fear to the sound of the train passing by Peter's office, and before she flees, she writes a series of numbers on one of Peter's notepads: 12787.Įlizabeth returns unexpectedly, and Peter finds her looking out of his window to where the train will pass. His wife Carol suffers extreme depression and rarely gets out of bed while he works in his practice, meeting some clients referred to him by his mentor, Duncan. Troubled psychotherapist Peter Bower suffers from nightmares and eerie visions ever since the death of his daughter Evie in a street accident a year earlier, which he blames on himself because he was briefly distracted by something in a store window and failed to notice her veer off the sidewalk. The film stars Adrien Brody, Bruce Spence, Sam Neill, Robin McLeavy, Malcolm Kennard, and Jenni Baird. It also uncovered that CBS News found that the ASPCA has been building up its net assets, going from just under $62 million in net assets in 2000 to over $340 million in 2019. The investigation found that only 40% of the ASPCA’s budget goes towards shelter and vet services, or grants to local shelters. In 2021, a CBS investigation highlighted that ASPCA funding is far from what donors expect. It felt as though the animals were being used for fundraising, rather than using funds raised to help the animals.” 2021 CBS Investigation Current CEO Matt Bershadker made nearly $1 million in 2021.īob Baker, a former ASPCA investigator, told The New York Times, “show one picture of a mistreated dog and the funds would pour in… t got to the point where animal welfare was not the priority, fund-raising was. The independent watchdog CharityWatch finds that ASPCA spends 49 percent of its budget on overhead, and 39 cents to raise every dollar, giving the organization a middling “C-minus” rating in its Spring 2023 rating guide. It’s about the money, not the animals. (Guither also wrote, “ASPCA has become increasingly abolitionist over the past decade”-referring to the extreme animal liberation philosophy that wants to abolish all human uses of animals.) According to Harold Guither, an expert on the animal rights movement, in 1993 the ASPCA took in 60,000 animals into its two shelters (the ASPCA closed three shelters in early 80s) and killed nearly 35,000 of them. At the time, the ASPCA had a kill rate that exceeded 50%. The ASPCA decided not to renew its contract, and services ended in 1994. Starting in the 1890s, the ASPCA entered into a century-long contract with New York City to run an animal control and sheltering program. The ASPCA also “most likely” killed dogs in 2012 after rescuing them, according to animal welfare commentator John Sibley, something he attributed to the ASPCA not wanting to spend the money to rehabilitate the animals. (That’s still an improvement over the previous body counts of the A-100,000 per year at the turn of the 20 th Century, to 250,000 per year in the 1960s.) The ASPCA chose to kill him-one of over 100 animals it killed that year. In one case, the ASPCA put down a dog known as “Oreo.” The ASPCA claimed the dog was a danger to the public, but rescue groups had offered to take in and rehabilitate the animal. However, it’s harder to justify for a group as wealth and influential as the ASPCA. It’s one thing for a local pet shelter to put down dogs and cats due to overcrowding and limited resources. SHAC argued that “ ASPCA’s unfair and deceptive fundraising practices harm local humane societies and SPCAs by capitalizing on and reinforcing the widely-held mistaken belief that the ASPCA is a parent or umbrella organization to the thousands of humane societies and SPCAs across the country.” In 2011, the State Humane Association of California (SHAC) filed a complaint with the California Attorney General about the ASPCA’s fundraising. However, the ASPCA is not related to local SPCAs, despite the similar names, and money given to the ASPCA will not necessarily go to a donor’s local shelter. However, many Americans confuse the ASPCA with their local SPCA. In 2021, the ASPCA only gave $5.8 million to support animal shelters, a mere 1.5% of its $129 million budget. Despite its name the ASPCA is not affiliated with local SPCAs and gives little of its money to them.
6/25/2023 0 Comments Non impulsive force definitionAuthoritative Parenting Style (Democratic)Īuthoritative parenting involves high expectations for achievement and maturity, but authoritative parents are also warm and responsive. Responsiveness refers to how much parents are accepting and sensitive to their children’s emotional and developmental needs. Parenting styles are categorized based on two dimensions of parenting behavior – demanding and responsive.ĭemandingness refers to how parents control their child’s behavior or demand maturity. Parenting Style Definition & Impact on Child Development The distribution is relatively stable within the population, except that European-American parents are about 2% more likely to have an authoritative style, while Asian-American parents are 2% more likely to be authoritarian. In the US, roughly 46% of parents use the authoritative parenting style, 26% use the authoritarian parenting style, 18% use the permissive parenting style, and 10% neglectful parenting style. These four parenting styles are sometimes called the Diana Baumrind parenting styles or Maccoby and Martin parenting styles. They added a fourth style and expanded Baumrind’s permissive parenting style into two different styles: permissive (also known as indulgent parenting style) and neglectful (also known as uninvolved parenting style). Although Diana Baumrind is known for her work on categorizing parenting styles, Maccoby and Martin (1983) were the ones who expanded this 3-parenting-styles model using a two-dimensional framework. 6/25/2023 0 Comments Greenfoot iskeydownWith the above to consider and a lot more to discover about Greenfoot, it’s safe to say that if you're looking for a comprehensive and powerful IDE meant for object orientation in Java, then you should try this one. A great tool for Java scenario simulation Once you finish writing code, Greenfoot enables you to make objects act, invoke methods directly and run the scenario. From your Greenfoot lessons, the isKeyDown method is located in which class Greenfoot What type of parameter does the keyDown method expect The name of the key to press on the keyboard How would the following sentence be written in Greenfoot source code If Bee is turning, and the keyboard key 'd' is down. It comes with syntax highlighting, auto-completion, find and replace along other commonly used IDE tools. Greenfoot uses Java code in developing the simulations and for this reason it provides an easy to understand and manage code editor that is well suited for beginners. Greenfoot - isKeyDown () seems to hold its value. String myKey '' while (('enter'. On the plus side, if you can’t really find what you need, the application allows you to create a new image using an installed graphics editor or you can load one from your computer. Instead of checking if the key is down, just send the keystroke to a variable and check it for enter. The application offers a large image library that is grouped into categories such as ‘animals’, ‘buildings’, ‘objects’, ‘people’, ‘symbols’ and more, each containing a decent amount of examples. I believed that it would always return the key that was last pressed. For each class you can create a subclass and customize it with a name and image since Greenfoot is a visual IDE. I have realized that the Greenfoot.getKey () only returns a string, if a key is pressed. The application itself is comprised of a single window which displays ‘the world’ and the used classes.īoth ‘Actor’ and ‘Word’ classes can be added with a simple right-click and you are able to insert as many as you want. Greenfoot is meant to be a tool appropriate for both teaching and learning Java in a visual way and for this reason its graphic user interface is kept simple and practical. The IDE provides standard Java code and combines it with visual execution and a large amount of documentation which should make it a viable solution for both experts and beginners. Greenfoot is an integrated development environment that allows you to build Java simulations for graphical programs and games in an interactive way. 6/25/2023 0 Comments Pusha t the animosity of caineThe fact is this 40-minute tape has only temporarily quenched the thirst. Wrath of Caine just dabbles in what we can expect from his debut, projected to release this March. “I could show you all the ways in which crime pays/ My drug ring’s a multi-million dollar crime wave,” he rhymes over a somber Bink production. You’ll hear more of his “four letter” dealing stories on the Renegades produced “Road Runner” and “I Am Forgiven”, where he searches for reprieve of his trafficking habits. With Young Chop on the beat, the Ton details some life on his block, “Teamwork make the dream work/all my niggas done seen work/All my niggas ain’t make it through/ So much death that my dreams hurt”. Pusha retells accounts of dope pushin’ and rough living with the compilation’s single “Blocka”. “There’s a meaning to the kissing of the ring/ The gods don’t mingle with the mortals/peasants ain’t sittin’ with the kings/ Goliath ain’t worried about your sling/ and Cassius ain’t bothered by your swings.” Pusha lets off on the haters in a track that holds the height of his cockiness heard throughout the tape. But the following song “Don’t Matter” speaks volumes. Music self-proclaimed shooter is doing something right without any major studio productions, he’s still living with “millions in the ceiling”. It hits dumb hard and makes the point that the G.O.O.D. Push revealed the mixtape via YouTube, with the first trailer being released on December 7, 2012, and the second. The Southside produced (with a co-production credit going to Kanye West) “Millions” is just what you’d expect from the trio that is Pusha, Kanye and Rick Ross. Wrath of Caine is Pusha-T’s third mixtape, released on January 28, 2013. Taking shots at present day rappers, he spits “Now everybody so ‘80s and 90’s inspired/ but none of you are ‘80s and ‘90s rhyming.” What ensues is the sound of thorough, head-banging rap. The 11-track tape opens up with the brash “Intro”, where Pusha warns listeners “the dead has arisen” to indicate the return of real lyricism. With a crazy collection of producers and features to highlight his lyrical talent, Wrath of Cainedoes its job amping the crowd for his Def Jam solo outing entitled My Name is My Name. As expected, Push doesn’t disappoint and delivers G.O.O.D. Intro Big up di numba one awtist inna di rap game, Pusha T Me waa unnu kno seh nuhbody nah fck wid da bwoy yah in or outta music. It’s easy to see why his supporters count this as one of the highly anticipated projects for the rapper. Assuming it isnt some hard left turn (or maybe even if it is), My Name Is My Name should be hot.Pusha T paves the way to his debut album, with a new mixtape Wrath of Caine. But when hes at his best namely, when hes offering up such hubristic gems as Goliath aint worried bout your sling / And Cassius aint bothered by your swings theres plenty suggesting hes still capable of being in that ballpark. Not lyrically, sonically, or in terms of quality does any of this evoke Hell Hath No Fury, always and forever Pushas greatest feat. The Rick Ross-assisted Millions is a worthy cousin of I Still Wanna, while the stuttering, propulsive ∻locka is stocked with Pushas prince-of-darkness seethe: ∺ll praise to the most high on both sides / I pray to God, I pray for hard, I wont lie. Utter misfires like French Montanas faceplant of a Future imitation on ∽oesnt Matter notwithstanding, it bangs pretty uniformly. Though not quite a Rich Forever or even a 4eva N a Day, the 36-minute Wrath of Caine typically sounds like the work of one of raps most exciting voices exactly what it is. Between joints like Mercy, New God Flow, and the oft-overlooked I Still Wanna, Pusha has been tagged on enough strong tracks since the last Clipse LP, 2009s Til the Casket Drops, to ensure that therell be plenty of commercial interest by the time he does give us his own album (in March, tentatively). Music role-player/everybodys favorite coke-rap aphorists pending solo debut, My Name Is My Name, has zero chance of flopping on any level. The pre-album mixtape as a form is generally used to direct extra attention to forthcoming LPs in need of a publicity boost, and the Clipse member/G.O.O.D. Pusha T didnt need to make Wrath of Caine. |
